Technology & Social Media Acceptable Use Policy

Mobile Phones

  1. Staff will be asked to bring their phones with them on excursions outside of the camp base for health and safety reasons i.e. emergencies.

  2. Staff are prohibited from taking photographs or videos of any of the children in Balance Summer Camp with their own devices.

Camp Camera

  1. The camp camera is available for any staff member to take an appropriate photo or video of the children.

  2. Care should be taken when taking photos/ videos to ensure that children are appropriately dressed and are not participating in activities that might bring the individuals or the summer camp into disrepute.

  3. The photos/ videos of the children must be in groups of three or more.

Social Media

  1. Balance Summer Camp has a Facebook, Instagram and Twitter account and webpage.

  2. The children’s personal information including name, home address and contact details will be omitted from the social media pages.

  3. The camp social media accounts will be regularly checked to ensure that there is no content that compromises the safety, privacy or reputation of the Balance community.

  4. Only photos from the camp camera can be uploaded onto these social media accounts.

  5. Staff must not include the pictures or names of children in apps such as Snapchat, WhatsApp, Viber, etc. This also applies all staff member’s own personal accounts and/or if the staff decide to create their own social media group.

  6. Staff must not use social media and the internet in any way to harass, insult, abuse or defame the children, their family members, staff, and other members of the Balance community.

  7. Staff must not discuss personal information about the children, staff and other members of the Balance community on social media.

  8. Staff and pupils must not engage in activities involving social media which might bring Balance into disrepute.

  9. Staff and pupils must not represent their personal views as representative of Balance on any social medium.

Sanctions

Misuse of the internet may result in disciplinary action. The camp also reserves the right to report any illegal activities to the appropriate authorities.
